Tech Support Follow-Up: “It’s worse”
Now that I’ve upgraded the operating system on my laptop, I find that my printer no longer works. Neither Apple nor HP can offer any suggestions, beyond “buy a new printer.” See, my printer is too old (five years — practically stone age) to have a print driver in the sexy new Lion operating system. I wonder what’s next. Maybe my new RAM will father some lambs or I’ll have a complete plug-in failure. Worse, I may finally be forced to crack that nasty bottle of blackberry brandy Aunt Muriel sent us as a wedding gift in 1990.
“I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”

At least you know that a “driver” isn’t a black dude in a suit driving around Ms. Daisy.
Not exclusively (and I don’t mean in a country club sense), no.
This is exactly what has happened to me. I’m using Apple Lion and my HP printer is now worthless. The only answer is to spend a ton of money on a better printer. This drives me crazy. I now have a useless dust collector on my shelf. Some days I want to break out the stone tablet and chisel.
That stone tablet would come in handy if you ever met an Apple executive. Wish I had one.
“If it’s not one thing, it’s another.” Wait, that cliche phrase is almost as bad as “it is what it is.”
Cliche for a very good reason — sadly both are true.
You’ve officially passed over. Crack open the blackberry brandy. You are now eligible to kidnap anyone who remotely looks like tech support and hold them until your problems are solved. When you’re done you must release them near a big box electronics store. Good luck.
10-4. I am all over it.
I feel your pain. LOL frequently upgrading an operating system causes yous computer to turn rogue and tell you all your periphal equipment is old. It makes me rip my hair out.
My hair’s on fire. Bald, hyperventilating and drunk is no way to spend the middle years.
No it isn’t, maybe you need a valium? I’m to that point.
I have been there. It’s all a plot to get us to buy more. I had Windows 3.1 until 2001. It was fine. I still long for it, but my Internet provider said I had to upgrade if I wanted to use their service anymore.
Planned obsolescence makes me completely irate. So wasteful, and yet we are powerless against it. Sigh.
